The noise level of pellet guns is important to a lot of people, especially those who shoot in his/her backyards…like me.
So how loud is the Daisy Powerline 880 air rifle?
I used an app on my smart phone to measure the sound level in dB. The app is called “Sound Meter”. It’s a free app and works great.
Here’s what the Sound Meter app looks like.
Anyway, I placed my cell phone with the app running about 18″ from the Daisy Powerline 880…so remember this is measuring the sound very close to the rifle. It will be much quieter for your next door neighbor.
Here’s my backyard shooting bench with the Daisy Powerline 880.
Here are the sound results:
- 61 dB – 3 pumps
- 63 dB – 5 pumps
- 65 dB – 10 pumps
This is pretty quiet and did not make the dog next door bark. The velocity at 10 pumps is about 750 fps with a lead pellet.
Here are some sounds to compare it to:
- 134 dB – .22 LR
- 120 dB – Fire engine siren
- 140 dB – Jet plane takeoff
- 25 dB – Background noise
- 42 dB – clap hands together
- 35-40 dB – humans talking
