Most guns function more smoothly and become more accurate after a “break-in” period. With most air rifles and pellet guns, the break-in period is about 200 shots.
So far I have shot about 80 pellets through my Gamo Hornet Maxxim. Let me show you the difference in accuracy from 10 shots to 80.

I think this was the very first shooting after sight in was completed.
Now let’s look at after 75 shots….
The 5 shot group is right above the blue tape. All 5 shots are touching. This group is smaller than a dime.
Let’s take a look at another group from the lighter 18 grain JSB pellets.
Here’s another 5 shot group using lighter JSB pellets. A dime would cover this group. The accuracy is improving significantly as I shoot more. The Gamo Hornet Maxxim is very accurate.
