Gamo Hornet Maxxim Velocity Chronograph

Here are the results of a chronograph test taken with the Gamo Hornet Maxxim .22 cal air rifle with various lead pellets.

Crosman Premier Ultra Magnum 14.3 grains – 735 fps

H&N Field Target Trophy 14.66 grains – 706 fps

Beeman Kodiak 21.14 grains – 597 fps

Here is the Gamo Hornet Maxxim air rifle review with the chronograph testing.

Is the Gamo Hornet Maxxim Quiet?

The Gamo Hornet Maxxim pellet gun is pretty powerful….850 fps with .22 cal pellets. So we would expect it to be pretty loud right?

Gamo uses an amazing barrel and suppressor to dampen or suppress noise and YES it does work…IMO.

My Gamo Hornet Maxxim is still in the break-in period so it should get quieter but it’s not too bad right now. I used an app on my smart phone to measure the sound. Here’s what the app looks like…

It works really well. The readings above are not from my testing.

I was shooting .22 cal 25 grain JSB pellets in my backyard. Here are the results:

…73 dB at 18″ from the muzzle. Remember this is very close to the muzzle so your neighbors will hear much less.

Here are some sounds to compare this with.

  • 134 dB – .22 LR
  • 120 dB – fire engine siren
  • 140 dB – jet plane takeoff
  • 35-45 dB – humans talking
  • 45 dB – hand clapping
  • 65 dB – Daisy Powerline 880 with 10 pumps and .177 pellets

Gamo Hornet Maxxim Accuracy

There are lots of opinions on the accuracy of Gamo pellet guns so I would like to provide one on the Gamo Hornet Maxxim in .22 cal using JSB Exact Jumbo Monster Diabolo pellets. The JSB pellets are said to be the best and I have to say, they are excellent.

The JSB Exact Jumbo Monster Diabolo pellets fit in the chamber perfectly…not too lose and not too tight. The tolerances must be very tight on these pellets. Anyway, these JSB Monster pellets weigh 25 grains.

Here is my bench rest setup. The Gamo Hornet Maxxim is Awesome!!

Here is the Glow Shot Splatter small bore target after 5 shots with the JSB Exact Jumbo Monster 25 grain pellets from the Gamo Hornet.

Here’s a close up of the target. That’s a half inch group. The target rings are in 1 inch increments. I still need to adjust the scope up and to the left about 1/2 inch.

So is the Gamo Hornet Maxxim in .22 cal accurate? YES. If you want to check Gamo pellet guns, here is a link to buy them online…Gamo Pellet Guns at

Gamo Hornet Maxxim Barrel Review

I never owned a Gamo pellet gun before… I now have a Hornet Maxxim .22 cal pellet gun. Some people say that Gamo products are crap…BUT I have NEWS… this gun is freakin awesome!

One of the things that drew me to this gun is the awesome looking barrel. Check it out…

The Hornet Maxxim barrel is heavy in diameter with flutes and a great looking muzzle brake/suppressor. The barrel design minimizes vibration and noise. Great for backyard shooting.

Here is a closeup view of the thickness of the barrel…and the flutes. It’s one stout barrel and it just looks awesome!!

Here’s the muzzle brake or suppressor. It is very effective and looks great.

Another view of the Gamo muzzle brake. Fantastic design!
